Nature Area in Chautauqua County

I can't remember the name of this site despite having made many visits here. The nature are is a little strange in that to reach the ponds at the back section of the area you must cross these train tracks to rejoin the trail. The area is teaming with wildlife. We have literally seen dozens of cedar waxwings and hummingbirds here. One pond is home to a very large beaver lodge. Frogs and ducks abound here.

The Bridges of Ashtabula County

Many counties proclaim the wonders of their covered bridges, but Ashtabula County really embraces them. Each year they devote a weekend in October to a covered bridge festival. Their bridges are noteworthy since many are still open to regular traffic. This is one that remains open. We were in the area to hunt for a geocache placed by a friend, Rev. Mike. We found the cache and a peaceful moment exploring a wonderful piece of the past.

Tanbark Trail - Allegheny National Forest

The Tanbark Trail has always been one of our favorite destinations away from home. The trail has a diverse mix of habitats and offers wonderful hiking for the area. We usually start at Sandstone Springs or park at a pull-off on Route 62 to hike this area. My favorite spots on the trail are walking through the peaceful hemlocks, picking blueberries in the new growth area, and playing in the rocks. This photo was taken Memorial Day weekend 2005.
